Character notes: PASTOR is earnest, but naïve, wanting to see the best, sometimes struggling to make space for the worst; JOANN is honest and straightforward but kind, a woman of her generation; JOHN is grieving and angry, clearly hurt by his mother and wanting to tell the truth; SMITH is easygoing, approachable.
